Day 6 Happy: Nice People
I'm still sick. Disgustingly, horribly, achingly sick. And miserable.
Luckily, I'm surrounded by nice people. My co-worker Miranda, for example, who let me go home early from work after I toughed it out for almost 8 hours. And Frank, another co-worker, who agreed to go pick me up a caramel milkshake from Sonic (delicious, by the way) and, although I sent him with my debit card, paid for it.
Most of all, my wonderful fiancé, who has doted on me constantly since he got home from work. He always takes such good care of me when I don't feel well.
Being sick is never fun, but it is less terrible when there are people around who genuinely care about you.

Sick Days! (005/365)
Day 5 Happy: Sick Days!
I woke up this morning feeling terrible! Sore throat, stuffy nose, aches and pains... the whole bit. Luckily, it is my day off! I had to get up really early to finish studying for, and take, my Criminal Justice exam (which I got an 80 on. I wanted to do better, but it was actually pretty hard. DARN YOU LEGAL JARGON!).
After I was finished with my exam, though, I was able to give in to the sicky. I was a 'futon potato' all day... napping, watching movies, making delicious anti-oxidant rich smoothies and just being a bum. It was definitely nicer than having to be sick at work. Hopefully I feel better before I have to go to work tomorrow!
Sometimes the absence of something bad (having to work when you feel terrible) is a good thing in itself!

Day 4 Happy: Getting to see friends unexpectedly
Today, like yesterday, I had several things to choose from for my happy! It was originally going to be "getting new books for a tiny amount of money." Our good friends Sarah, Taylor and Nick gave Marc and I a Barnes and Noble gift card for our birthday. Tonight after work, we went down and picked out 2 new books and ended up paying less than $2 out of pocket. I got Russell Brand's "My Booky Wook" (which I am DYING to start reading, but it will have to wait until homework is done. BLAH!) and Marc got the next book in his Dresden series.
However, an EVEN BIGGER HAPPY came around when I send Taylor a text telling her thank you for our gift card, she told me that she and Sarah were at the very bookstore we had just left! They must have arrived just as we were leaving. So, we swung back around and hung out with them, talking wedding plans (yay!) until the store closed. It was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise to get to hang out with them this evening.
Today wasn't perfect. I woke up feeling pretty terrible, with a sore throat and scratchy voice. Work was pretty lame, and it was one of my longest shifts of the week. I have a TON of homework to do before tomorrow, when I have a Criminal Justice exam. Normally, all of that would be pretty bothersome. However, finding my "happy" for the day makes me continuously look out for what is good and try to ignore the ick.
Bonus Happy: We just had a GIGANTIC storm, complete with pounding rain, ridiculous thunder and TONS of lightning.

Oh, The Choices! (003/365)
Day 3 Happy: Finding too many choices to by my "happy" for the day
It appears my little trick has worked!
I started this blog to help me notice and realize all the little things that make me happy. Today, I stopped myself several times throughout the day and said "OH! This could be my happy thing!"
Even though today was a ridiculously stressful day (I had at least a million hours of homework to do, AND had to go to a meeting for our wedding venue) I found several things to be happy about. I made a DELICIOUS pot of vegetarian chili. I finished a 300 page book that I had to read for school in about five hours. My kitty jumped up on the chair behind me to snooze. I got to meet up with one of my bridesmaids and talk wedding stuff. There was a beautiful breeze on the beach while we were there. I actually FINISHED said amount of heinous homework... the list goes on and on!
Optimism is awesome!

I Have Goals! (002/365)
Day 2 Happy: Setting Goals!
Today, with the help of my new Wii Fit, I set some serious goals for working out and losing weight. I have wanted to lose weight for a while, and get so frustrated and disheartened when I try so hard and don't see results. Hopefully, by setting some smaller goals, I will be able to succeed this time. I freaking have to! My wedding is in just over five months and, just because my wedding is at the beach, doesn't mean I want to look like a whale in my wedding dress!
I started on my way to another fitness-related goal today, too! I am doing the "3000 sit ups (or crunches) in the month of June" challenge that is making the rounds on facebook. I did my 100 crunches for today, and it wasn't even that hard. Maybe at the end of the month I will have little tummy muscles.
It feels good to set a goad and start working towards it. Have any of you set goals recently? What are you working for?

The Happiness Revolution
Today is my birthday.
I'm 24 today. (Whenever I say that, I get the theme music from the Jack Bauer show stuck in my head.)
Also, I have decided that this year is going to be the best year ever. I am going to get my body in shape, start eating healthier and working out regularly. I am going to make sure I take more time to do things I enjoy, like reading a book that isn't required for school or go to the beach for a moonlight stroll. More importantly, I am going to make sure that I find something each and every day that makes me happy.
That is what this blog is about. Tallahassee from Zombieland was more than just a brutal zombie killer. He was also kind of a genius. (Why is that word so hard to spell?!) His Rule #32: Enjoy The Little Things is what this year is going to be about for me.
Lately, I feel so caught up between school and work and doing things that are necessary that I haven't taken the time to make sure that I enjoy every day. Each day for one year, I will come up with at least one thing that has made me happy that day and share it with you. I hope in doing this that I will become an overall happier and more positive person.
Today, my happy thing is: Birthdays!
Who doesn't love their birthday! A whole day about you? (Well, this year, I shared with honoring all of the men and women who fight to protect our country, but I'm okay with that.) I had a fantastic birthday! We have been celebrating all weekend, with concerts and dinners out with friends. It was fantastic. Today, I was off work (PAID... Thanks Memorial Day!), got to talk to my family and spend the entire day with my fiancé. We hung out at home before going out to grab a Cosmo (I didn't like it) before watching Sex and the City 2 (see review below). While some may say that Marc is whipped (dad) for going to a 'girlie' movie with me, I really appreciated it! Mom and Dad send us some money and, combined with a giftcard from GameStop, we were able to get a Wii Fit without any money out of pocket! Hello, future fitness! Now, I'm going to go finish off my birthday by eating leftover pizza, and hanging out on my futon, watching a movie with my favorite guy. A fantastic start to my 24th year!
Sex and the City 2 review:
Definitely not as good as the first movie. Not as much of a storyline, but I loved it just the same. Of course the clothes and shoes were to die for, and following the girls to Abu Dhabi was fun. (I can't help but wonder, though, if any Middle Eastern people will be offended by how they are potrayed in the movie.) If you are a fan of the series and the first movie, I would definitely go see it. I will be getting it when it comes out on DVD.
