Day 18 Happy: Grocery shopping!
I remember going grocery shopping when I was a kid. I freaking hated it! Every once and a while, my Mom would load all us kids into the car and truck us down to the Commissary on base to do MAJOR grocery shopping. My sister and I, being awesome as we are, would make up games to play during the marathon trip. Our favorite was pretending that one of us was deaf, and we would do ridiculous (fake, and terrible) sign language to each other. We thought we were totally convincing, and that anybody walking by would think that one of us was really deaf, and that we were talking to each other via sign language.
Looking back, I realized that we probably just looked like idiots.
Now, grocery shopping is fun. Far less entertaining and politically incorrect, but fun. I enjoy shopping. Period.
And grocery shopping is technically shopping. Fun. Also, being that Marc and I are on a pretty strict budget (the wedding is eating my bank account, along with my soul), we have to keep track of what we are spending. It is like a game! I carry around my little notebook, making hash marks for every dollar we spend. Besides, we get to pick out ONLY the food we want to eat. Fluffernutters for dinner? Why not?!
Sometimes, being a grown up is awesome.

Wedding Stuff (012/365)
Day 12 Happy: Getting (wedding) things accomplished
Today has been a very productive day. Marc and I made some photography business cards for him (free + shipping from Vista Print), bought and mailed my Dad's Father's Day present (I thought Father's Day was this Sunday and that it was going to be late... turns out I'm early!) and got tons of wedding stuff accomplished.
We found out the last time we visited our venue that we had to have a final guest list 60 days prior to the wedding! That's a long time. Most wedding books and websites that I have read suggest that you send our your invitations a month and a half to two months before the wedding. If we did that, we wouldn't get our RSVPs in time. So, we have to send our invitations out around the beginning of next month.
::panic::
The first thing we had to do was get in touch with our ceremony and reception venue (not particularly easy, since they don't have an answering machine... wtf?!). We had to solidify what time our ceremony was going to start. Why are these tiny little decisions so hard?! After a visit to my friend Google, we discovered that the sun will set at exactly 6:44 p.m. on our wedding day. We had to guess how long our ceremony would be and estimate how long pictures would take so that we could get the best sunset light. We finally figured that we are going to start our ceremony at 5:30 and then pray that it doesn't go longer than about 20 minutes. Which is good, because all but 25 of our guests are going to be standing (the first 25 chairs are included and each one after that is $4.50. Sorry, friends and family... I love you, but at $4.50 per butt, you can stand). At least we have our time line set now.
And then, there are about a million different ways you can word wedding invitations (and response cards). There are etiquette rules, and different orders depending on who is paying. We had to decide if 5:30 p.m. is "afternoon" or "evening". After about an hour of quibbling over each word, we finally had our wording down.
We were lucky and found some awesome printable invitations from Michael's ($29.99 before a 40% off coupon!). All we had to do was go down to FedEx and have them printed off. It was just over $35. That's extremely cheap for wedding invitations. Now they are all printed. I bought pretty wrapping paper that I am going to use for envelope liners, and we even have stamps all ready to go! I panicked over nothing... our invitations are almost done. Yay!
Also, last night we went to Ikea and spent about half of the gift card money we have been hoarding for the last couple of months. We got some stuff to try and put together some centerpieces and other decorations. It feels good to finally be getting some of this wedding stuff accomplished.
The only big things that are really left are finding a florist, paying for all this crap, and getting a dress (which I am holding off on because a) I don't want to look like a whale... what are the white kind called?... BELUGA! and b) I want to go wedding dress shopping with my Mom and sister and Lyndsey doesn't get back from Italy until the end of July).
Wedding stuff getting done (finally) = Happy!

Harry Potter! (008/365)
Day 8 Happy: Harry Potter!
Harry Potter is like comfort food for the soul.
Today, my boss ever so graciously let me skip my morning shift at work, making it so that I worked five and a half hours instead of ten and a half. I slept all night, and then until 1:30 in the afternoon before I had to get up and get ready to go in.
Even after all that sleep, I still didn't feel quite up to par after work. When I came home, I still felt the urge to lay around and get better. So I put in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I have seen the Harry Potter movies countless times each and they never get old. I can quote almost every line, have read the books several times each, and even have part of the fifth book on CD (thanks to my wonderful sister who burned it for me before I started a solo trip from Georgia back home to St. Pete).
It's a comfort thing.
Needless to say, ("needless to say" is one of those naughty phrases my journalism teachers always tell us not to use. "If it is needless to say, you don't HAVE to say it." Whatever, I like saying it, so I will.) I am ridiculously excited about the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando. The park opens June 18th, but I'm not a crazy person, so I won't be going then. A) It is going to be ridiculously hot, and B) All the wackos from the entire world who are more into Harry Potter than me are going to be there. I am going to wait until October or so to visit. Plus, this will give me more time to save up the crazy amount of money I am going to feel the urge to spend on Harry Potter memorabilia.
You know, I kinda like this blog and how I can just ramble on and on about things I like. It's fun.

Crayola! (007/365)
Day 7 Happy: Crayola Bunny
Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to: Crayola Bunny...

Crayola is pretty much my best friend, and has been since my Aunt Jackie gave him to me for Easter many, many years ago. Whenever we moved, Crayola was there. When I didn't feel good, Crayola was always there to make me feel better. Most of all, when I was sad, Crayola was there to catch my tears.
I'm quite attached to him. When I lived at home, my mom used to try to convince me to wash him, saying he was "dingy" and "dirty." I knew that Crayola was getting a little long in the tooth (bunny joke) and I was terrified that he would fall apart in the washer. She would wait until I left for school and then wash him anyways. She still nags me about washing him whenever she comes to visit.
Lately, Crayola has been pretty near retirement. He is getting old, and falling apart despite my best efforts to keep him intact. I have reserved a special spot in our closet for him, away from dust and naughty kitties who would rip him to shreds. He's always ready when I need him, though, whether it is it catch tears, or cuddle when I'm not feeling well, like this weekend. More than 20 years later, and he can still make me feel better.
What makes you feel better when you're having a bad day?

Nice People (006/365)
Day 6 Happy: Nice People
I'm still sick. Disgustingly, horribly, achingly sick. And miserable.
Luckily, I'm surrounded by nice people. My co-worker Miranda, for example, who let me go home early from work after I toughed it out for almost 8 hours. And Frank, another co-worker, who agreed to go pick me up a caramel milkshake from Sonic (delicious, by the way) and, although I sent him with my debit card, paid for it.
Most of all, my wonderful fiancé, who has doted on me constantly since he got home from work. He always takes such good care of me when I don't feel well.
Being sick is never fun, but it is less terrible when there are people around who genuinely care about you.

Sick Days! (005/365)
Day 5 Happy: Sick Days!
I woke up this morning feeling terrible! Sore throat, stuffy nose, aches and pains... the whole bit. Luckily, it is my day off! I had to get up really early to finish studying for, and take, my Criminal Justice exam (which I got an 80 on. I wanted to do better, but it was actually pretty hard. DARN YOU LEGAL JARGON!).
After I was finished with my exam, though, I was able to give in to the sicky. I was a 'futon potato' all day... napping, watching movies, making delicious anti-oxidant rich smoothies and just being a bum. It was definitely nicer than having to be sick at work. Hopefully I feel better before I have to go to work tomorrow!
Sometimes the absence of something bad (having to work when you feel terrible) is a good thing in itself!

(Serendipity) 004/365
Day 4 Happy: Getting to see friends unexpectedly
Today, like yesterday, I had several things to choose from for my happy! It was originally going to be "getting new books for a tiny amount of money." Our good friends Sarah, Taylor and Nick gave Marc and I a Barnes and Noble gift card for our birthday. Tonight after work, we went down and picked out 2 new books and ended up paying less than $2 out of pocket. I got Russell Brand's "My Booky Wook" (which I am DYING to start reading, but it will have to wait until homework is done. BLAH!) and Marc got the next book in his Dresden series.
However, an EVEN BIGGER HAPPY came around when I send Taylor a text telling her thank you for our gift card, she told me that she and Sarah were at the very bookstore we had just left! They must have arrived just as we were leaving. So, we swung back around and hung out with them, talking wedding plans (yay!) until the store closed. It was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise to get to hang out with them this evening.
Today wasn't perfect. I woke up feeling pretty terrible, with a sore throat and scratchy voice. Work was pretty lame, and it was one of my longest shifts of the week. I have a TON of homework to do before tomorrow, when I have a Criminal Justice exam. Normally, all of that would be pretty bothersome. However, finding my "happy" for the day makes me continuously look out for what is good and try to ignore the ick.
Bonus Happy: We just had a GIGANTIC storm, complete with pounding rain, ridiculous thunder and TONS of lightning.

Oh, The Choices! (003/365)
Day 3 Happy: Finding too many choices to by my "happy" for the day
It appears my little trick has worked!
I started this blog to help me notice and realize all the little things that make me happy. Today, I stopped myself several times throughout the day and said "OH! This could be my happy thing!"
Even though today was a ridiculously stressful day (I had at least a million hours of homework to do, AND had to go to a meeting for our wedding venue) I found several things to be happy about. I made a DELICIOUS pot of vegetarian chili. I finished a 300 page book that I had to read for school in about five hours. My kitty jumped up on the chair behind me to snooze. I got to meet up with one of my bridesmaids and talk wedding stuff. There was a beautiful breeze on the beach while we were there. I actually FINISHED said amount of heinous homework... the list goes on and on!
Optimism is awesome!

The Happiness Revolution
Today is my birthday.
I'm 24 today. (Whenever I say that, I get the theme music from the Jack Bauer show stuck in my head.)
Also, I have decided that this year is going to be the best year ever. I am going to get my body in shape, start eating healthier and working out regularly. I am going to make sure I take more time to do things I enjoy, like reading a book that isn't required for school or go to the beach for a moonlight stroll. More importantly, I am going to make sure that I find something each and every day that makes me happy.
That is what this blog is about. Tallahassee from Zombieland was more than just a brutal zombie killer. He was also kind of a genius. (Why is that word so hard to spell?!) His Rule #32: Enjoy The Little Things is what this year is going to be about for me.
Lately, I feel so caught up between school and work and doing things that are necessary that I haven't taken the time to make sure that I enjoy every day. Each day for one year, I will come up with at least one thing that has made me happy that day and share it with you. I hope in doing this that I will become an overall happier and more positive person.
Today, my happy thing is: Birthdays!
Who doesn't love their birthday! A whole day about you? (Well, this year, I shared with honoring all of the men and women who fight to protect our country, but I'm okay with that.) I had a fantastic birthday! We have been celebrating all weekend, with concerts and dinners out with friends. It was fantastic. Today, I was off work (PAID... Thanks Memorial Day!), got to talk to my family and spend the entire day with my fiancé. We hung out at home before going out to grab a Cosmo (I didn't like it) before watching Sex and the City 2 (see review below). While some may say that Marc is whipped (dad) for going to a 'girlie' movie with me, I really appreciated it! Mom and Dad send us some money and, combined with a giftcard from GameStop, we were able to get a Wii Fit without any money out of pocket! Hello, future fitness! Now, I'm going to go finish off my birthday by eating leftover pizza, and hanging out on my futon, watching a movie with my favorite guy. A fantastic start to my 24th year!
Sex and the City 2 review:
Definitely not as good as the first movie. Not as much of a storyline, but I loved it just the same. Of course the clothes and shoes were to die for, and following the girls to Abu Dhabi was fun. (I can't help but wonder, though, if any Middle Eastern people will be offended by how they are potrayed in the movie.) If you are a fan of the series and the first movie, I would definitely go see it. I will be getting it when it comes out on DVD.
